Welcome! My name is Jeff. I love to fish!

I have over 40 years of freshwater fishing experience. During those years I learned that preparation and the use of quality fishing rods and gear are the keys to successful fishing strategy. I can increase your success – adjust your fishing strategies for your next fishing trip using the steps I follow as a guide. Use my fishing techniques and tips on a fishing vacation to maximize your success catching more fish during your time on the water.

I think it is safe to say that individuals often do not benefit from their occasional fishing experience. They do not learn enough from those limited fishing experiences to allow them to improve their fishing techniques and handle the many different situations that arise. Individuals may be able to fish very successfully in a given spot but face frustration in each new fishing situation. My fishing techniques and preparation for fishing trips has served me well over the years. My passion for fishing and my increasing success at catching fish resulted in my establishing www.SignatureFishingRods.com, a website that offers quality custom fishing rods.

Roger, my fishing buddy and I gained a tremendous amount of experience over the 40 years we have fished together. Each year consisted of at least one major fishing trip and a couple of weekends. Family responsibilities made working full time the only choice. As much as we prepared, fish seldom behaved the way expected and early catches were less than overwhelming. Yet we continued to benefit from our trips and learn why things did not go as hoped. We studied our approach, the lake, time of year, weather conditions, our fishing rods and equipment – whatever could play a role in each trip. Other situations encountered over the years bordered on disaster.  The list includes the bear cub invading our cabin at night, losing our outboard’s lower unit to a rock, a child knocking a custom fishing rod overboard, and the breaking of the boat trailer springs in route to the lake. However, none of these early misadventures dimmed the thrill of fishing and all added significantly to our fishing techniques and knowledge. Every fishing experience, whether it be through trial and error on the water, a guided experience, seminars, videos, reading, fishing reports, or talking with bait dealers and fishing guides has added to this knowledge. The smarter we got, the more success we achieved.

Roger and I have developed a good sense of what it takes to be successful fishermen in different environments. Roger has a fantastic base of fishing knowledge and I have been fortunate tohave been around him to pick up a great deal of information. Our goal is to “out smart” the fish by understanding their patterns and being prepared. Have we been successful? It is not unusual for us to out fish most if not all on the lake even if guides are being used. Do we consider ourselves professionals? No, we are experienced fishermen who understand the fish we are after, their relationship to the environment and  use the right equipment.

Follow our steps to prepare for a fishing trip:

  1. Review the habits of the species after and the physical environment you plan to fish. Understand Your Target
  2. Select fishing rods appropriate for your trip. Whether you use old fishing rods or are planning to buy new fishing rods, learn about the makeup of fishing rods. The type of rod blanks, guides, handles and action all determine the amount of vibration that travels from the lure/bait up through the line to the hand. Quality fishing rods are an important element for success. If you select the wrong type of fishing rod, fish hits will go unnoticed. How To Select A Fishing Rod
  3. Select a fishing line suitable for the species and environment to be fished. Fishing Line
  4. Select fishing reels that match each of the fishing lines and rods that will be used. Fishing Reels
Put it all together for a successful trip – get your fishing equipment and fishing rods that meet your needs ready. Use these fishing techniques and fishing tips to prepare for your next successful fishing trip. Catch more fish!

The reward - fresh fish
